Every Neighbor United for Food (ENUF) launched in 2026 to serve the greater Washington area.

Our flagship program is DC Food Rescue, formerly Food Rescue US - DC, which coordinates volunteers to deliver surplus food from local businesses to nearby organizations at no charge.

Building on a foundation of reducing food waste and supporting people in need, ENUF is cultivating new programs to advance food security and sustainability throughout the DMV.

Who we are

DC Food Rescue is recognized as a leader in
last-mile food transport across the DMV.

Our story began in 2016, when Kate Urbank founded the Washington, DC site of the national nonprofit Community Plates, later Food Rescue US. Kate quickly expanded the DC chapter into Virginia and Maryland, forging relationships with local businesses to donate their surplus food to nearby shelters, pantries, and other socially-minded organizations.

Through grassroots outreach and support from local leaders, our volunteer base and partner network steadily grew. As the COVID pandemic, government shutdowns, severe storms, and periods of protests rocked the region, we continued to ensure that good food was reaching those who needed it most.

By the end of 2025, our program had redistributed over 15 million pounds of food and was averaging 1,445 food rescues per month, managed by just two staff members. It was time to enter a new phase of growth as we stepped into our tenth year of operation.

We launched ENUF to create new opportunities while hyper-localizing our impact. As an organization fully rooted in the Washington region, ENUF continues to grow DC Food Rescue, and launch new programs addressing food waste and food insecurity. We continue to utilize Food Rescue US technology to coordinate hundreds of volunteers and thousands of food rescues across the DMV area each year. We are proud to stand firmly at the intersection of food security, environmental sustainability, and community.
