Why Donate?

Responsibly managing your surplus has never been easier.

Any business, nonprofit, or institution is eligible to donate food.

  • Our volunteers rescue food seven days a week, even on holidays. We can schedule regular pick-ups or arrange ad hoc donations, such as after events or due accidental surplus. Whatever your business needs.

  • By recording weight estimates from every food rescue, we can help your company report progress on Zero Waste goals or identify patterns to fine-tune food procurement and production to minimize surplus.

  • Every food rescue is matched to a nearby organization that serves people experiencing food insecurity. Donating food helps your business build goodwill within your local community and allows you to showcase your corporate social responsibility.

  • Your surplus food qualifies as an in-kind donation to DC Food Rescue (EIN 52-1499111), making it eligible for tax deduction.

Learn more via this guide by the Harvard Food Law & Policy Clinic.

  • Under the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act (1996), enhanced by the Food Donation Improvement Act (2021), the charitable donation of apparently safe, wholesome food and grocery products is federally protected from liability.
