FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Shared Statement from enuf and food rescue us

After a decade of serving the District, Northern Virginia, and parts of Maryland and redistributing more than 15 million pounds of food, Food Rescue US - DC is proud to announce its new identity: DC Food Rescue

DC Food Rescue will be a core program of Every Neighbor United for Food (ENUF), a new nonprofit organization rooted in the DC region and focused on food recovery, food security, and community-based solutions to food waste and hunger. This transition allows DC Food Rescue to continue growing its local impact while building a locally-focused home for its volunteers, food donors, community partners, and allies across the DMV.

Having nurtured this program since 2016, Food Rescue US is proud to see this site evolve. “Food Rescue US is uniquely positioned to empower community-based leaders to build and scale high-impact food recovery programs through innovation, proven best practices, and technology-driven stewardship,” said Food Rescue US CEO Sharon Enright. “We are proud to continue supporting Food Rescue US - DC in its evolution as DC Food Rescue and look forward to many more years of meaningful community impact.”

Food Rescue US is also grateful for the dedication of the founding Site Director, Kate Urbank. Kate, her small team, and hundreds of local volunteers, food donors, and community partners have made tens of thousands of rescues possible. As she prepares to step back from full-time work, Kate shared that “it has been both the joy and the challenge of my professional career to bring this food rescue program to the DMV. After ten years, I’m excited to pass the torch.”

ENUF is now a licensee of Food Rescue US, using its technology to support the coordination of food rescues. This allows food rescue operations to continue on the same platform, ensuring a smooth transition with no interruption. “I am honored to carry this work forward and build on that strong foundation laid out by Kate and the Food Rescue US - DC team,” said Anthony Panzera, ENUF’s Executive Director. “I look forward to growing more programming and innovation in food recovery for our region.”

Together, Food Rescue US and ENUF remain committed to the shared mission of reducing food waste and getting good food to people and families in need. We are grateful to everyone who has helped grow DC Food Rescue and look forward to supporting this next stage of local leadership and impact.
